Just re­wards for Tidy Towns teams

TIDY TOWNS GROUPS and Es­tates from through­out the county were re­warded at a Wick­low County Coun­cil pre­sen­ta­tion for their em­pha­sis on the im­por­tance of sus­tain­abil­ity and more en­vi­ron­men­tally friendly com­mu­ni­ties.

A spe­cial award and a €1,000 cheque was pre­sented to Kil­gar­ron Park, En­niskerry for En­vi­ron­men­tal Aware­ness and Com­mu­nity In­volve­ment. Wood­view, Avoca was judged as the most im­proved Lo­cal Au­thor­ity Es­tate and re­ceived a cheque for €700.

Fin­ish­ing first was Bal­li­nalea, Ash­ford who re­ceive €800. In sec­ond were White­hall Park, Balt­in­glass; Burn­aby Lawns, Grey­stones; River­field, Aughrim. In third were Par­nell Park, Rath­drum; Druid's Brook, Kil­coole; Bal­lanagh Close, Avoca. Fourth were Chapel Lane, Shil­le­lagh; Dunlavin Res­i­dent's As­so­ci­a­tion and Ki­ladreenan Close, New­town.

The Tidy Towns Award win­ners were Donard for Main Street in a Small Town, while Coolboy was the run­ner up. The Large Town Main Street win­ner was Avoca and the run­ner-up was Grey­stones.

Highly com­mended were Strat­ford on Slaney, Grange­con and Knock­ananna. Laragh and Dunlavin re­ceived a recog­ni­tion of merit award. Aughrim re­ceived an award for the high­est fin­ish in the Na­tional Awards and Balt­in­glass re­ceived recog­ni­tion as the most im­proved area in the Na­tional Awards.

The win­ner of the Lo­cal Au­thor­ity Es­tate award was River­field, Aughrim, with Kil­gar­ron, En­niskerry in sec­ond.

Highly com­mended were Bal­li­nalea, Ash­ford; St. Martin's Drive, Aughrim; Bal­lanagh Close and Pal­la­dius Park, Donard. The most im­proved were Wood­view Park, Avoca; Burn­aby Lawns, Grey­stones; Wood­view, Ash­ford and Chapel Lane.

The pri­vate es­tate win­ner was Ash­ton, Bless­ing­ton. Sec­ond was Burn­aby Heights, Grey­stones and Bur­gage Manor of Bless­ing­ton was third. Rock Manor, Kil­coole and Gorse Haven, Coolboy re­ceived recog­ni­tion awards.

The Waste Min­imi­sa­tion and Bio­di­ver­sity Award went to Gleann Chile, Gle­nealy. Burn­aby Heights won the Bio­di­ver­sity award and Kil­gar­ron Park the Sus­tain­abil­ity Award.
