Villagers move up the league table
BARRY MERNAGH bagged a brace on Friday night during Rathnew AFC's 4-1 victory over Sugarloaf to help his side climb out of the Premier Division relegation zone.
The Villagers have leapt from ninth place up to seventh spot thanks to their second league success of the season. Jody Merrigan and Colin Jameson were also on target for the Shamrock Park outfit.
Also during the week, St. Peter's Bhoys and Enniskerry YC picked up a point apiece after playing out a 1-1 draw last Wednesday evening.
Former Bray Wanderers man Alan King had given the Youth Club the lead just before the half-time break with a wonderful free-kick but Shane Byrne - on his return from injury for the Saints - earned his side a share of the spoils with a goal early in the second period.
