Flow­ers for moth­ers

TWO YOUNG moth­ers were pre­sented with bou­quets of flow­ers this week for their culi­nary skills at the St Fer­gal's Re­source Cen­tre ‘Come Dine With Me' competition.

Amy Kin­sella and Jessie Don­nolly won first prize in the competition, in which all nine mem­bers of the young moth­ers' group par­tic­i­pated.

The ladies paired up to cook a dish for their peers ev­ery sec­ond Wed­nes­day for four weeks. Now that it's all over, they will be en­joy­ing a lovely lunch to­day in Jas­mine House.

Ev­ery­one got a cer­tifi­cate for tak­ing part in the competition, and they en­joyed pre­sent­ing each other with their sig­na­ture dishes. It was Amy and Jessie's ‘ro­gan josh' that topped the poll, how­ever, with a dessert of ‘ heart tarts' for St Valen­tine's Day.

The girls are aged 18 to 25 and the group has been on the go since Septem­ber. They at­tend ev­ery Mon­day and Wed­nes­day for a com­bi­na­tion of talks, ac­tiv­i­ties and so­cial­is­ing.

‘Ev­ery week they do some­thing dif­fer­ent,' said Paula Mur­phy, a co­or­di­na­tor. ‘We still have room for more mem­bers,' said Paula, adding that any­one in­ter­ested can con­tact the re­source cen­tre on 01 2760376.
