Vital to retain 84X bus service

Bray People - - NEWS -

IT IS vital that the 84X bus service in North Wicklow is maintained according to Cllr. James O'Sullivan.

'It is absolutely essential that there are no cut backs in the 84X bus service. This bus route is very important for commuters from Newcastle, Kilcoole, Greystones, and Bray. The possible cut backs were confirmed recently by a Dublin Bus Official. I am informed that they are currently reviewing the route and are considering cutting the service. The reduction will affect one 84X in the morning and also one bus from its evening service.

'Given that this represents a 14 per cent reduction in service, I am extremely disappointed that the representatives from Dublin Bus who were in attendance at the last meeting of Greystones Town Council in January failed to mention it.

'At a time when Dublin Bus are increasing fares, and have already reduced services in the North Wicklow area, I find it hard to believe that they would even consider reducing such a vital service. This bus route is already at capacity and any reduction in service will mean further overcrowding and increased passenger discomfort.

'As a regular commuter, I know how important this service is to the people of North Wicklow. I have written to Dublin Bus seeking clarification on the proposed reduction and have outlined my serious concerns regarding any such reduction.'
