FUNDING OF €4.41M FOR SCHEME Drainage contract gets the go-ahead
FUNDING has been approved by the Department of the Environment allowing Dún LaoghaireRathdown County Council to accept the €4.41m tender of Roadbridge Ltd for the Bray to Shanganagh Network Contract of the Shanganagh Bray Main Drainage Scheme. The contract is being financed under the Minister’s Water Services Investment Programme 2010–2012.
Work is already underway on the construction of the new state-ofthe-art wastewater treatment plant at Shanganagh, and the pipeline to be constructed under this latest contract will convey wastewater from Bray to Shanganagh for treatment prior to discharge. The overall scheme will benefit both the Shanganagh and Bray catchments. ‘I expect very significant improvements in environmental and water quality standards to accrue from this scheme’, said Minister Eamon Ó Cuív. ‘It reflects the Government’s commitment to continuing investment in the country’s wastewater infrastructure to ensure that discharges into our rivers, lakes and coastal water meet the highest international standards.’
The Minister confirmed that his approval clears the way for work to commence and that he ‘will be asking Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council to get construction underway as quickly as possible’.
