AWARD FOR CREATIVITY IN SCIENCE
Tuesday, February 22, saw a number of Transition year students attend the Crest awards in St Patricks College in Drumcondra. The Galway Education Centre and The British Science Association teamed up to give out the first Republic of Ireland CREST Awards for creativity in science and technology among students.
The President of Ireland, Mary McAleese, opened the ceremony and met with many participants and organisers. The students from Blessington won Bronze for their research and possible cure for snoring and sleep apnoea.
PARENTS COUNCIL GOLF CLASSIC
The Parents Council are running a Golf Classic on Saturday April 9th 2011 in Tulfaris Golf Club. Tulfarris Hotel faces onto the Blessington Lakes and provides a beautiful setting for this event.
Tee times will start from 11.30am and if you would like to take part, you can do so in the following ways; (1)Sponsor a tee box for €50.00 (2) Sponsor a green for €50.00 (3) To enter a team of four is €200 (this will include a steak dinner) (4) there will also be a draw on the day with great prizes. NATIONAL SPIKE BALL FINALS U.C.D.
On Tuesday March 1st the Schools 2nd Year mixed Spike ball team set out for U.C.D. to the National Spike ball finals. The team played Fingal CC, Dungar- van and St. Raphaels Loughrea in the pool stages. They won the first game, drew the next and lost one in the group stage, qualifying to play Dungarvan in the semi-final.
The semi-final proved to be a very tight affair with Blessington winning the first set and Dungarvan winning the second. In the third and final set Blessington were unlucky to lose 25 to 13. The students also had opportunities to work as score keepers helping out the referees on the day.
The College is very proud of the team’s achievement and the players would like to thank Mr. Carley who had worked very hard in preparing the team for the competition. Team; Lauren Thomas, Sean Murphy, Olivia Kinsella, Niall Dunne, Molly Cullen, Jake Ryan.
The Blood bank will be in the school on Wednesday, March 9, for the local blood donation clinic.
