Tues­day, Fe­bru­ary 22, saw a num­ber of Tran­si­tion year stu­dents at­tend the Crest awards in St Pa­tricks Col­lege in Drum­con­dra. The Gal­way Ed­u­ca­tion Cen­tre and The Bri­tish Science As­so­ci­a­tion teamed up to give out the first Repub­lic of Ire­land CREST Awards for creativ­ity in science and tech­nol­ogy among stu­dents.

The Pres­i­dent of Ire­land, Mary McAleese, opened the cer­e­mony and met with many par­tic­i­pants and or­gan­is­ers. The stu­dents from Bless­ing­ton won Bronze for their re­search and pos­si­ble cure for snor­ing and sleep ap­noea.


The Par­ents Coun­cil are run­ning a Golf Clas­sic on Satur­day April 9th 2011 in Tul­faris Golf Club. Tul­far­ris Ho­tel faces onto the Bless­ing­ton Lakes and pro­vides a beau­ti­ful set­ting for this event.

Tee times will start from 11.30am and if you would like to take part, you can do so in the fol­low­ing ways; (1)Spon­sor a tee box for €50.00 (2) Spon­sor a green for €50.00 (3) To en­ter a team of four is €200 (this will in­clude a steak din­ner) (4) there will also be a draw on the day with great prizes. On Tues­day March 1st the Schools 2nd Year mixed Spike ball team set out for U.C.D. to the Na­tional Spike ball fi­nals. The team played Fin­gal CC, Dun­gar- van and St. Raphaels Loughrea in the pool stages. They won the first game, drew the next and lost one in the group stage, qual­i­fy­ing to play Dun­gar­van in the semi-fi­nal.

The semi-fi­nal proved to be a very tight af­fair with Bless­ing­ton win­ning the first set and Dun­gar­van win­ning the sec­ond. In the third and fi­nal set Bless­ing­ton were un­lucky to lose 25 to 13. The stu­dents also had op­por­tu­ni­ties to work as score keep­ers help­ing out the ref­er­ees on the day.

The Col­lege is very proud of the team’s achieve­ment and the play­ers would like to thank Mr. Car­ley who had worked very hard in pre­par­ing the team for the competition. Team; Lau­ren Thomas, Sean Mur­phy, Olivia Kin­sella, Niall Dunne, Molly Cullen, Jake Ryan.


The Blood bank will be in the school on Wed­nes­day, March 9, for the lo­cal blood do­na­tion clinic.
