The Young Social Innovators Group is currently busy rehearsing their drama presentation for the Speak Out Forum in the Helix on March 8th. Their project is called “D for Diamonds, D for Death “and deals with the subject of conflict diamonds and the destruction they cause to local communities especially in Sierra Leone, The Speak Out Forum will give them an opportunity to present their project to a wide audience which will include Sr Stanilaus Kennedy, the founder of the Young Social Innovators and students from other participating schools.

Calling all young athletes and wannabees! With the good weather upon us now is the time to get fit. The running club will meet every Monday and Wednesday after school in preparation for the up and coming track and field events. Casual runners are welcome.

Ms. Fitzgerald, Mr. Cronin and Mr. Sillery escorted three fifth year classes to the Helix this week for a viewing of Hamlet the Shakespearian play on their Leaving Cert course. The bus left from outside DCW shortly before six and returned late. The evening was both entertaining and educational for all involved.

Over the midterm break Mr. O Brien's band of TY students involved with the Tanzania project did a three day fundraising bag pack in the local Tesco store. Many thanks are extended to all who contributed financially and indeed with their manpower. 3,230 euro was collected which is indeed a testament to the good will and generosity of the Wicklow community. Future fundraising events are planned, a bric a brac sale on St. Patrick's weekend in O’Reilly’s shop on Lower Main Street, Wicklow, a bollywood dance workshop and a set dancing ceilli in the GAA club on April 1st. Volunteers are also being recruited to run or walk in the women's mini marathon in June.

On March 16th Ms. Carthy and the Hockey Captains are organising a fundraising inter class blitz in the school for Tanzania. This is an excellent opportunity for all those who have never tried hockey before to give it a go!

DCW’s Show Jumping team has yet again made DCW proud while competing in the Hoofprints Interschools league on Saturday, February 26. The junior team members consisted of Megan McConnell on Cora, Laura Hall on Rachel, Megan Clarke on Heidi, Seana Davis on Dusty, Drew Davis on Dusty, and a new member Rebecca Mahony on Tequila Slammer made an exciting addition to the team. All of our team members and horses were turned out perfectly and they had great performances. As a result they came 3rd in the Novice competition.

Training is once again under way on a Wednesday afternoon. Good luck to all those who are preparing to compete in the Senior B Camogie Blitz on March 12 in Arklow.
