The latest from Glencormac United soccer
ALL SEVEN of the Glencormac United teams were in action last weekend. The U8s beat Enniskerry 1-0 in a fantastic match and performance at Ryders Field on Saturday. This was a great team performance from all the players especially Glen Bradshaw, Conor Gallagher, Cian Cahill, Cian Hind and Alex Flynn. Cian got the all important goal after many efforts throughout the game from all the squad and it would have been more but for the Enniskerry keeper played fantastic to keep the scoreline to a minimum .
The U9s suffered a surprise 7-0 defeat in the WDSL Cup to Greystones. Glens had beaten their opposition on al three previous meetings this season but were up against it from the start and trailed 4-0 at the break. The defeat might have been bigger only for the excellent goalkeeping of Charlie Jones who made a series of great saves. Craig Conroy and Laura O'Toole also played their hearts out.
The U10s had another good win on Saturday, this time a 1-0 victory over Wicklow Rovers. Ethan O'Mahony got the only goal of the match and this was a hard battle to the end but they saw it through. Sean Redden, Aaron Bradshaw, Jamie Byrne and Michael Brady were all in great form. The entire under 10 Panel would like to thank Pat Heavy from the Glenview Hotel for sponsoring tracksuits for the team. The 11s were at home to Arklow Town and put in a better performance than the 7-2 defeat suggests. They were 2-1 down at the break after a tight first half and had three goals disallowed for tight offsides. Michael Brady got both goals and he was best along with Matthew Sinnott, Hannah Doyle and Amy Greene.
The 12s faced Avonmore and suffered a 62 defeat. The panel were very much under strength for this one but put in a good effort with goals from Adek Gurralle and Mick Brady. Noel Nolan and Jamie Woods battled to the end.
The youths played Wicklow Rovers away and drew 0-0. The team must have had the mock examinations on their mind in this one as they never got their passing game going with Danny Hayes, Paddy Tunney, Dean Kelly and Luke McManus best on the day.
The seniors were away to Avonmore and had to field a lot of the Youth team as they have a lot of injuries at present. Alan Pyke got an early goal to give the glens the lead but the game finished up 1-1. Paul Devlin, Niall Meldon and Paddy Tunney were the top performers.
The Club would like to congratulate their popular midfielder Mick Rooney and his wife Margaret on the birth of their first child, a baby boy which they have called Ethan Wayne Rooney. Mick has given the club many years of loyal service and everyone at G.U.F.C. is delighted for both him and Margaret and look forward to seeing little Ethan in the Soccer Academy in future years.
