Seconds miss out on winning chance
WICKLOW 2ND XV lost a game the should have won when they travelled to Enniscorthy for the latest round of Leinster league fixtures on Sunday. Wicklow started well and dominated proceedings from the off.
They scored try wide on right from John Kearney after some excellent recycling by the pack who were well in control of the forward exchanges.
A lack of concentration saw Wicklow concede a try after a soft turnover in midfield. Enniscorthy moved the ball wide and ran in a score from 60 metres out. The conversion was added and Wicklow turned around at the break 7-5 down.
Early in the second half Wicklow conceded another soft try under posts following a mix-up in defence. The conversion was again added and Wicklow trailed 14-5. To their credit they battled back well and were rewarded with a well deserved try from a rolling maul. Eanna Killeen was deemed to have touched the ball down. The conversion was missed but Wicklow were back in touch at 14-10. Unfortunately the clock ran down before they were able to score again.
Best for Wicklow on the day were Niall Higgins who had an excellent in the lineout, the experienced Simon Norton, Barra Kuntz who tackled his heart out and Shane Byrne.
Wicklow will look to get back to winning ways when they take on Garda at Ashtown Lane on Sunday next. Kick-off is at 1.30 p.m.
