St. Cronan’s chalk up convincing win
BOYS’ FOOTBALL LEAGUE
St Cronan’s 4-7, St Laurence’s 0-1: St. Cronan’s played some excellent football when they defeated a gallant St. Laurence’s team last Wednesday in Greystones. Playing with a slight breeze they took the game to St. Laurence’s and raced into an early lead. Points from Joe Fleming, Shane Molloy and Callan Casey settled Crow nerves before Shane MacDermott rattled the net with his first goal. Captain Evan Sweeney worked his socks off, took up intelligent positions and showed great composure and skill to send over a 45m and a wonderful point just before half time to leave St. Cronan’s in a commanding lead .
In the second half St. Laurence’s lifted their game but St. Cronan’s defence stood rock solid. Danny Magee at midfield and Shane MacHugh in defence were very impressive for St. Laurence’s. Their goalkeeper Aidan Lacey brought of some excellent saves and Louis Lawlor also stood out when he was introduced into the game.
A super point from Con Green and goals from Ryan Hannon, Shane MacDermott and Stephen Wilson sealed victory for the Crows. Best for St. Cronan’s on the day were Alexandros, Adam and Callan.

Kilcoole Primary School 6-05, St. Fergal’s 4-08: (Report by Kotryna Jasonyte and Kaitlin Daly, 5th Class, Kilcoole Primary School). St Fergal’s travelled to Kilcoole for this first game in the league. The sides were evenly matched and it was a close sporting contest. St. Fergal’s started very well and took some fine scores with good team work and were leading at half time. Kilcoole came into the game in the second half showing great determination.
This never say die attitude and tenacious defending by Killian Carlin Hannon and Adam Cummins brought them back into the match. Luke Evans and Jordan Murray worked tirelessly in midfield and in the forwards Mazen Agamy and Brian Short impressed. St Fergal’s staged a comeback in a closely contested match but even scoring a penalty in the last minute wasn’t enough and Kilcoole emerged as victors on the day.
