There was a Songschool workshop for Transition Year students on Thursday, February 17. The students were divided into 4 groups and each group composed a song. There were very impressive results. The students performed their songs at the end of the day and we may hear these songs again at the end of year show. Many thanks to the 5th year band members made their contribution on the day and to Ms Donnelly who organised the event.
Ann-Marie Farrell from An Taisce recently visited the school and spoke to the school’s Green Committee. They had a very informative talk about climate change.
JACK AND JILL FOUNDATION
On Thursday, February, 10 students in Laurels 2 CSPE Class invited in Jonathan Irwan, founder of the Jack and Jill Foundation to speak to them about the work it carries out. Mr. Irwan gave a very informative talk, relaying that it was because of the lack of funding and support when his son Jack was diagnosed with a mental handicap that led to the founding of the foundation. The class was really moved by the talk and are currently organising a campaign to collect old mobile phones. Each phone brought in means a donation of €10 for the charity. The money is then used to supply nurses to care for the needs of the children, both in Wicklow and on a national basis.
On Friday, March 4, 46 5th year English students travelled to The Helix DCU to see a production of Shakespeare’s Hamlet. The play was very beneficial for all students. They were accompanied by their teachers Mr Ahern, Ms Osborne and Ms Hedderman.
