Ark­low ladies book place in DLTC fi­nal

THE ARK­LOW Ladies 1 team will play their sec­ond Dublin Lawn Ten­nis Coun­cil Win­ter League Fi­nal in a row af­ter com­ing through a close semi-fi­nal in Malahide last Sun­day.

First Ladies, Kay Hickey and Irene Ry­der, gave the team a great start with a com­pre­hen­sive 6-3, 6-1 win but the teams were level af­ter Malahide de­feated the 2nd Ladies, Mags Kelly and Martina Be­han, 6-4, 6-4.

In the de­cid­ing match Ark­low's Jac­inta Kinch and Lu­cia MacMahon came from be­hind to win the match 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 and clinch a place in the Divi­sion 6 fi­nal on Sun­day, March 27. The Mens team also had a great run in this year’s Win­ter League, win­ning their group in Divi­sion 7 and qual­i­fy­ing for the knock­out stages for the first time, where they were nar­rowly de­feated by Car­rick­mines.

In the clubs own Win­ter League fi­nals on the 24th, Sea­mus Hickey and Hugh Kane will play Mike Ness­bitt and Therese Nazari in Divi­sion 2, while in Divi­sion 1, Damien Whe­lan and Jac­inta Kinch will play ei­ther Frank Dennehy and Mags Kelly or Dan Klimek and Lu­cia Ma­hon.

This year’s Daf­fodil Day Char­ity Tour­na­ment in aid of the Ir­ish Cancer So­ci­ety will be at 7.30 p.m. on the 25th March and is open to any­one who would like to help this wor­thy cause. Other up­com­ing events at Ark­low Lawn Ten­nis Club in­clude a St. Pa­tricks Eve Tour­na­ment on Wed­nes­day, March 16 at 7.15 p.m., and en­tries are now be­ing taken for the Spring Team League com­menc- ing on the 4th April.

Club Di­rec­tor of Ju­nior Ten­nis, Mr. David Shee­han, con­tin­ues the ex­ten­sive Ju­nior pro­gram with coach­ing on Satur­days and Tues­day and ju­nior mem­bers will re­ceive vouch­ers to­wards coach­ing when they join this year.
