Cap­tains Drive In: Our Cap­tains Frank Quaid and Margo Doyle held their drive in last Sun­day in mar­vel­lous weather con­di­tions, mak­ing their en­trance in a bal­loon dec­o­rated buggy, as cham­pagne bot­tles popped they got a great cheer as they both pow­ered their golf balls up the first fair­way. There was a huge gallery and the odd bit of ban­ter among mem­bers to see they got off to a fly­ing start. 60 peo­ple played, the course was in great shape and was a credit to the green­keep­ing staff. There was also a great turnout af­ter­wards in the club­house for the pre­sen­ta­tion of prizes where ev­ery­one was treated to fine food and we pass on our com­pli­ments on to the Cater­ers.

Druids Glen Qual­i­fier: From Mon­day 4th April there will be an Open Mens Sin­gles Stable­ford and an Open Ladies Sin­gles Stable­ford ev­ery Mon­day and Tues­day ex­clud­ing Bank Hol­i­days and Open Week. Each week the Win­ner of the Mens Competition and the Ladies Competition go for­ward to play in a Grand Fi­nal on Septem­ber 30th. The over­all Win­ner from both Mens and Ladies Com­pe­ti­tions win a week­end for two in Druids Glen Golf Re­sort each. Cost is only €10!!

In­tro­duce a Friend: Each Fri­day evening for the month of April the course and club will be open for mem­bers to in­tro­duce their friends (non-golfers or ex golfers) to the won­der­ful game of golf. A Scram­ble or Team event will be run at 6 pm on Fri­day 1st, 8th, 15th and 29th.

Dowl­ing, Wil­lie Byrne), for the 8 Team qual­i­fiers scram­ble; 1st The Vil­lage 4 (John Clarke, Dar­ren Ro­nan, James O'Toole, Larry Dev­er­aux), 2nd was 'The Pres­i­dents Men' (Ste­vie Dowl­ing, Paul Quinn, Jimmy Carthy, Ai­dan Earls). Best In­di­vid­ual Score was Jame­sie Doyle (386 points).

Cool­lat­tin staged the first eigh­teen holes competition of the sea­son. In spite of the cold blus­tery con­di­tions scor­ing was of the high­est or­der. Win­ner of the competition, which was gen­er­ously spon­sored by Coogan Hard­ware was won by lo­cal mem­ber Tom Ryan. Play­ing off eigh­teen Tom had 42 points, com­posed of 19 on the front nine and a great 23 points on the back nine. Tom won on a tie break from the Cap­tain's brother Benny Doyle (17). Best gross went to Robert Master­son who, play­ing off a 5 hand­i­cap, went round in one over for 35 points. Third place went to Tom Wilkin­son (12) who recorded 41 points. The prizes for Satur­day and Sun­day went to Damien Os­borne (13) and Rath­drum na­tive, De­nis Water­ton (21) re­spec­tively. Both re­turned scores of 40 points.


The Cor­ner House Golf So­ci­ety kicked off their new sea­son with new cap­tain Kevin O’Reilly’s drive in at Black­wa­ter on Sun­day last. Their was a great turn out of 29 golfers on the day in what was great golf­ing con­di­tions. Burn­ing up the course with some great golf and over­all win­ner on the day was Ian Walker who won on a count back from Char­lie Holden, win­ner of class 1 again with some amaz­ing golf shots was Damo Byrne, win­ner of class 2 was Char­lie Holden, and win­ner of class 3 was Andy Walker. Congratulations to Damo Byrne who had a hole in one on the 13th hole, there was no win­ner of the birdie competition The So­ci­ety would like to thank Pat Long for pro­vid­ing the food in the Cor­ner House af­ter­wards. The so­ci­ety would also like to thank Alan Rice for the spon­sor­ship of all the prizes on the day. Our next out­ing will take place on the 27th of March in Glen­mill, tee off at 10.00.
