Rathnew rule roost
RATHNEW AFC went where no U-17 League side have gone before at the weekend when they inflicted a first league defeat of the season on Liffey Valley Rangers.
The two went toe-to-toe at Shamrock Park on Saturday afternoon and with the hosts still boasting a 100 per cent record and the visitors still clinging onto their unbeaten record, something had to give.
And it proved to be the latter after a goal apiece from Shane Doyle and Eric Dunne helped them to a 2-0 win over the Dublin side.
Rathnew now move into second spot in the table, a mere four points behind Rangers, but with three games in hand.
The Villagers were unfortunately the only Wicklow side who enjoyed a successful weekend, with St. Anthony’s crashing to a 7-1 defeat against Tymon Celtic.
There were also victories for Granda A and Granada B this weekend.
