Sugarloaf win shoot-out

Bray People - - SPORT - JIM MCLAUGHLIN PREMIER TROPHY

SUGARLOAF FC displayed nerves of steel to advance to the semi-finals of the Jim McLaughlin Premier Trophy.

After 90 minutes of their clash with Richmond Rovers, the score was deadlocked at 1-1. Extra-time failed to separate them as well, so it was penalty shoot-out time.

Darren Collopy, Ciarán Dunne, Kenny Greene and Tony Kiernan all kept their cool to convert their spot-kicks, and goalkeeper Colum Tinsley saved twice to break Richmond Rovers hearts.

Darren Collopy had given his side the lead from the spot in the first half of normal time, but Rovers hit back through a Trevor Conaty free-kick to force extra-time.

Defending champions Newtown United will be joining Sugarloaf in the penultimate stage. Arklow Town stood between them and a place in the last four but the Magpies negotiated their way to a 0-3 success at the Bridgewater Centre Park side thanks to goals from John Heffernan, Paudie Doyle and Shane Mooney.

Wicklow Town will also be in the hat for the last four after receiving a walkover from St. Peter's Bhoys.
