Rathnew sink Newtown

Bray People - - SPORT -

NEWTOWN UNITED bid farewell to their unbeaten record this week.

Shamrock Park was their destination last Tuesday evening for a date with Rathnew AFC A and the tie seemed to be destined to end in deadlock until the 90th minute when the hosts were awarded a penalty.

And Anto Mernagh kept his cool to convert the spot-kick. That Mernagh strike has lifted the Villagers out of the relegation zone and into the warmth of eighth place.

Also hoping to be moving upwards is Arklow Celtic A. They rammed home four goals as they defeated Shillelagh United to record just their second league victory of the campaign.

The Celtic Park outfit are now within a win of climbing out of the drop zone.
