Bray Lakers’ site hits access hitch

Bray People - - NEWS -

PLANS TO develop a site for the new Bray Lakers facility have come to a standstill due to problems with access.

The site donated to the special needs club by Wicklow County Council is located just off the Boghall Road. Access through St. Fergal's church has proved impossible, and access through the car park of Ballywaltrim Community Centre has been refused.

‘On Friday I rang the chairman of the community centre and was told they declined to allow us go in across the carpark,' said Patrick O'Rourke of Bray Lakers.

He said that board members had indicated earlier that it would be possible. ‘ We don't know what changed,' he said.

Mr. O'Rourke said that the only remaining route is through Schools Road, which he said is more difficult than others.

The site is on a derelict basketball court and will not affect the existing playground.

‘It's up to the council now. We have done everything we can and sought access from those two bodies. It's already over nine months since we were granted that site. It's taking a long time.'
