Talk will address role of the Irish Post Office
THE APRIL meeting of the Kilmacanogue History Society will include a talk entitled ‘From Post Box to Proclamation - the Post Office in Irish Life.'
Stephen Ferguson will outline the development of the Irish Post Office and describe the part that post boxes and delivery methods have played in this.
He will show how the Postal Service has been an integral part of Irish life.
Special mention will be given to Kilmac's own 1868 Penfold Victorian box Ä away for repairs at the moment. S
Suggestions on its location upon return to Kilmacanogue will be welcomed at the meeting.
Stephen Ferguson is Assistant Secretary of An Post with responsibilities that include postal heritage.
He has set up and developed the Irish Postal Museum, opened recently at the GPO, and which is well worth a visit. He has also penned ‘ The Irish Post Box' published in 2009 by An Post.
The talk will be delivered at 8.30 p.m. in the Glencormac Inn on Tuesday April 5.
Admission is €3 on the night or €2 for members. All are welcome.
