Talk will ad­dress role of the Ir­ish Post Of­fice

THE APRIL meet­ing of the Kil­macanogue His­tory So­ci­ety will in­clude a talk en­ti­tled ‘From Post Box to Procla­ma­tion - the Post Of­fice in Ir­ish Life.'

Stephen Fer­gu­son will out­line the de­vel­op­ment of the Ir­ish Post Of­fice and de­scribe the part that post boxes and de­liv­ery meth­ods have played in this.

He will show how the Postal Ser­vice has been an in­te­gral part of Ir­ish life.

Spe­cial men­tion will be given to Kil­mac's own 1868 Pen­fold Vic­to­rian box Ä away for re­pairs at the mo­ment. S

Sug­ges­tions on its lo­ca­tion upon re­turn to Kil­macanogue will be wel­comed at the meet­ing.

Stephen Fer­gu­son is As­sis­tant Sec­re­tary of An Post with re­spon­si­bil­i­ties that in­clude postal her­itage.

He has set up and de­vel­oped the Ir­ish Postal Mu­seum, opened re­cently at the GPO, and which is well worth a visit. He has also penned ‘ The Ir­ish Post Box' pub­lished in 2009 by An Post.

The talk will be de­liv­ered at 8.30 p.m. in the Glen­cor­mac Inn on Tues­day April 5.

Ad­mis­sion is €3 on the night or €2 for mem­bers. All are wel­come.
