THOSE Child­care Providers who’ve been pro­vid­ing places for ECCE, the free pre-school year; CCS, the Com­mu­nity Child­care Sub­ven­tion Scheme; and CETS, the Child­care Em­ploy­ment Train­ing Sup­port Scheme (which pro­vides sub­sidised places for some of those on VEC cour­ses and FAS Train­ing pro­grammes), have re­cently been con­firm­ing their wish to con­tinue do­ing so from Septem­ber.

Any Child­care Providers who want to make an ap­pli­ca­tion to start pro­vid­ing places un­der any of these Schemes, (or school age fa­cil­i­ties want­ing to make an ap­pli­ca­tion for CETS) from Septem­ber, must do so by April 1st, and can get in­for­ma­tion and ap­pli­ca­tion forms from the Wick­low County Child- care Com­mit­tee (WCCC) of­fices: Kil­mantin Hill, Wick­low Town, phone 0404 64455, email info@wccc.ie .

The WCCCs Spring Train­ing pro­gramme is now start­ing and its plans for fur­ther train­ing in 2011, ac­cred­ited and un­ac­cred­ited, will be an­nounced soon. Cur­rent de­tails are, and fu­ture de­tails will be, on the web­site, www.wccc.ie . Brochures are also avail­able.

Fol­low­ing the new Gov­ern­ment’s de­ci­sion to have a stand-alone Depart­ment of Chil­dren with its own full Min­is­ter, a step up from the pre­vi­ous ju­nior Min­is­ter for Chil­dren and Youth Af­fairs, the child­care sec­tor looks for­ward to con­tin­ued recog­ni­tion and sup­port, and now awaits more de­tail.
