PARENTS COUNCIL GOLF CLASSIC
The Parents Council are running a Golf Classic on Saturday, April 9, 2011 in Tulfaris Golf Club. Tulfarris Hotel faces onto the Blessington Lakes and provides a beautiful setting for this event. Tee times will start from 11.30am and if you would like to take part, you can do so in the following ways; (1) Sponsor a tee box for €50.00 (2) Sponsor a green for €50.00 (3) To enter a team of four is €200 (this will include a steak dinner) (4) there will also be a draw on the day with great prizes. On Tuesday, March 15, TY students with the 5th and 6th Year art classes went on a trip to the RDS to see ‘Tutankhamun – His Tomb and His Treasures’ this exhibition takes the viewer on a captivating journey through time into the lost wonders of ancient Egypt and reveals the epic story of the discovery of the forgotten tomb of the ‘Boy King’ who died under mysterious circumstances aged only 19. With the assistance of leading Egyptologists and using sketches and diary notes made by Howard Carter and original photographs taken by exploration photographer Harry Burton, three burial chambers and an extensive collection of the most important treasures of Tutankhamun have been authentically recreated. Students also got to see an exhibition of Irish Art as the RDS is celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the RDS Taylor Art Award with a major exhibition entitled ‘Dearc 150’.
The RDS Taylor Art Award is the premier Award in the annual RDS Student Art Awards Competition. It is probably one of the oldest awards of its type in the world and was first awarded in 1860 by the RDS. Each student studying leaving cert Art will now have to compile a report on the visit as part of the Art Appreciation section of their course.
