PAR­ENTS COUN­CIL GOLF CLAS­SIC

The Par­ents Coun­cil are run­ning a Golf Clas­sic on Satur­day, April 9, 2011 in Tul­faris Golf Club. Tul­far­ris Ho­tel faces onto the Bless­ing­ton Lakes and pro­vides a beau­ti­ful set­ting for this event. Tee times will start from 11.30am and if you would like to take part, you can do so in the fol­low­ing ways; (1) Spon­sor a tee box for €50.00 (2) Spon­sor a green for €50.00 (3) To en­ter a team of four is €200 (this will in­clude a steak din­ner) (4) there will also be a draw on the day with great prizes. TU­TANKHAMUN’S TOMB

On Tues­day, March 15, TY stu­dents with the 5th and 6th Year art classes went on a trip to the RDS to see ‘Tu­tankhamun – His Tomb and His Trea­sures’ this ex­hi­bi­tion takes the viewer on a cap­ti­vat­ing jour­ney through time into the lost won­ders of an­cient Egypt and re­veals the epic story of the dis­cov­ery of the for­got­ten tomb of the ‘Boy King’ who died un­der mys­te­ri­ous cir­cum­stances aged only 19. With the as­sis­tance of lead­ing Egyp­tol­o­gists and us­ing sketches and di­ary notes made by Howard Carter and orig­i­nal pho­to­graphs taken by ex­plo­ration pho­tog­ra­pher Harry Bur­ton, three burial cham­bers and an ex­ten­sive col­lec­tion of the most im­por­tant trea­sures of Tu­tankhamun have been au­then­ti­cally recre­ated. Stu­dents also got to see an ex­hi­bi­tion of Ir­ish Art as the RDS is cel­e­brat­ing the 150th An­niver­sary of the RDS Tay­lor Art Award with a ma­jor ex­hi­bi­tion en­ti­tled ‘Dearc 150’.

The RDS Tay­lor Art Award is the premier Award in the an­nual RDS Stu­dent Art Awards Competition. It is prob­a­bly one of the old­est awards of its type in the world and was first awarded in 1860 by the RDS. Each stu­dent study­ing leav­ing cert Art will now have to com­pile a re­port on the visit as part of the Art Ap­pre­ci­a­tion sec­tion of their course.
