On Tues­day, March 29, classes will fin­ish at 12.35pm to fa­cil­i­tate a staff de­vel­op­ment day. The par­ent/teacher meet­ing for Fifth Year, LCA1, Sec­ond Year and TY2 will now take place on Thurs­day March 31st be­tween 4.20 and 6.30pm.


Well done to Abbey Col­lege Bank (ACB) team who trav­elled to the Ark­low Bay Ho­tel on Thurs­day March 10th for the Re­gional Fi­nals of the competition. The team im­pressed the judges with their in­no­va­tive dis­play and the knowl­edge they had gained through this process. De­spite fin­ish­ing out­side the prizes much was learned and can be ap­plied in the com­ple­tion of their LCVP port­fo­lios.


Paula Mad­den (co–or­di­na­tor of the Yel­low Flag pro­gramme) vis­ited the col­lege on Wed­nes­day last to speak with the com­mit­tee and to as­sist in the im­ple­men­ta­tion of the pro­gramme. The Yel­low Flag pro­gramme in­volves not only teach­ers and stu­dents of Abbey CC and De La Salle Col­lege but also par­ents and com­mu­nity or­gan­i­sa­tions such as Craoi Rath Naoi, WAY pro­ject and CEART.

The aim of the pro­gramme is to pro­mote in­ter-cul­tur­al­ism and equal­ity. An in­ter-cul­tur­al­ism day is planned for Tues­day March 29 in Abbey CC from 11.15 am to 2pm. Var­i­ous ac­tiv­i­ties have been or­gan­ised which in­clude a dis­play of bak­ing fea­tur­ing bread and cakes from var­i­ous cul­tures and po­etry dis­plays.

We would like to ex­tend an in­vi­ta­tion to all par­ents of Abbey CC and De la Salle Col­lege to at­tend this event and your in­put would be greatly ap­pre­ci­ated. For­mula 1 Abbey CC suc­cess­fully launched their fifth and fi­nal Race team into this years F1 in schools event. Team Ace Rac­ing im­pressed both scru­ti­neer's and judges with their minia­ture F1 race car de­signed on site in the col­lege’s CAD de­sign fa­cil­i­ties.

The lead-up to the race event in­volved the stu­dents set­ting up a web­site, pro­mot­ing the progress of the team and at­tract­ing spon­sor­ship from lo­cal and en­gi­neer­ing re­lated busi­nesses. Lo­cal busi­ness's who came on board in­cluded The Pineto Take-away Wick­low, J Flood Menswear, Miz­zo­nis Pizza Wick­low and Heels bou­tique Wick­low. Ark­low Bear­ings pro­vided their en­gi­neer­ing ex­per­tise and the School Com­ple­tion Pro­gramme (SCP) came on board to of­fer sup­port We would like to take this op­por­tu­nity to thank all our spon­spors for their sup­port and to con­grat­u­late

the team on their achieve­ment.


On Mon­day, March 14 a Se­nior Cy­cle Op­tions Evening was held in the col­lege to in­form prospec­tive par­ents of the sub­jects and pro­grammes avail­able in Coláiste Chill Mhan­táin. The prin­ci­pal, Mr. Donoghue, pro­gramme co – or­di­na­tors and ca­reer guid­ance teacher out­lined the struc­ture and re­quire­ments of the var­i­ous pro­grammes as well as the ca­reer paths avail­able on com­ple­tion of these pro­grammes. The evening was well at­tended and proved very worth­while.
