All classes had the theme of health: phys­i­cal, men­tal, so­cial, emo­tional and spir­i­tual run­ning through them in the school from March 7th to March 11th.Teach­ers in all sub­ject ar­eas worked with stu­dents on some as­pect of health. Vis­it­ing speak­ers from or­gan­i­sa­tions such as Men­tal Health Ire­land, The Ais­ling Ado­les­cent Ad­dic­tion Treat­ment Cen­tre Co Kilkenny and ser­vice users from a men­tal health sup­port group in New­bridge shared ex­pe­ri­ences, in­for­ma­tion and ad­vice with groups of stu­dents. Work­shops pro­mot­ing healthy re­la­tion­ships through clear com­mu­ni­ca­tion and mak­ing healthy choices were of­fered to a group of se­nior stu­dents. Ran­domly se­lected groups were also guided through a se­lec­tion of web­sites which pro­mote and sup­port pos­i­tive men­tal health among young peo­ple. Mem­bers of the P.L.C. class also sold 1Life bracelets and dis­trib­uted in­for­ma­tion about this sucide preven­tion helpline.

This was a very ben­e­fi­cial ex­pe­ri­ence and thanks to all who made it such a suc­cess­ful event. A spe­cial word of thanks to Mrs o Hara who or­gan­ised and co­or­di­nated the week of events


Sev­eral ac­tiv­i­ties took place in Scoil Chonglais over the past ten days to cel­e­brate Seach­tain na Gaeilge. These ac­tiv­i­ties in­cluded Tóraíocht Taisce, Bron­nadh Fáinne, Céilí, Tráth na gCeist and Comór­tas Ealaíne. A pre­sen­ta­tion will be made to all the win­ners in the com­ing days. Three mem­bers of Scoil Chonglais at­tended a Stu­dent Coun­cil train­ing work­shop in Kil­dare on Tues Mar 15th. They par­tic­i­pated in ac­tiv­i­ties with other schools from the area and learned alot about ef­fec­tive Stu­dent Coun­cils.

School Con­cert Au­di­tions are now in full swing for the end of year school con­cert which will take place on Thurs­day, May 26 in Fa­tima Hall.


On Tues­day, March 15, Scoil Chonglais were beaten con­vinc­ingly by Co­laiste Bhride Carnew in The Se­nior Camoige Fi­nal.

In the quar­ter fi­nal of the Wick­low Cham­pi­onship Scoil Chonglais Se­nior foot­ballers played St. Kevin’s Dunlavin re­cently. They made a good start and were only four points down at half time hav­ing played against a strong wind. How­ever Dunlavin ran out easy win­ners in the end.

Congratulations to Dar­ren Byrne 3rd year who won his 16kg cat­e­gory in the All Ire­land Box­ing Cham­pi­onship in Dublin on Satur­day, March 12, well done on this great achieve­ment.
