It has a very hectic few weeks here in St. Gerard’s with numerous finals and semi-finals taking place in all disciplines. In the first instance we are overjoyed with our First Year win in the Leinster League Final. This was our maiden venture into this stage of the competition and meeting us there were Rathdown School.
The game itself was a truly magnificent fixture with both sides displaying considerable poise and skill in attack and defence.
The first half was scoreless putting pressure on both teams to attack in the second half. With a great move Elana Tice struck home what would be the winning goal for St. Gerard’s.
As the final whistle blew there were scenes of unbridled celebration and joy from coaching staff and players alike. This is our first time to win the Leinster League in First year and we are very proud of our achievement. Well done girls!
Our Minor Hockey team were unfortunately beaten by Newpark Comprehensive in the Leinster Senior League Semi Final.
Although we put up tough resistance Newpark proved that bit too strong on the field with the final score line reading 0-3. We wish Newpark every success in the Final of the League.
Our U13’s played superb rugby at the Oratory School Sevens in the UK early in March and took home the winners trophies in both the 1st and 2nd team sections and the Governor’s Cup for Excellence in Rugby. The prevailing cool weather did little to deter our spirited talent. This is the first occasion since 1978 that we have taken the honours in the 1st competition. Well done on the tremendous performances and we look forward to our return next year to defend out titles.
Our SCT, having played some outstanding rugby this season, were beaten by CC Roscrea in the semi final of the Leinster Schools Cup last week. However we will meet CC Roscrea again in the final of the Leinster League later in the month. Our JCT will also play Roscrea in the final of the Fr. Godfrey Cup on Wednesday 23rd March in Templeville (St. Mary’s, Templeogue) at 2.30pm. All support welcome!
Congratulations to all those who participated in the School Art Competition 2011.
The winners were Katie Murphy – Senior School Competition and Katie Myler and Shane Kenneally – Senior School Runners Up. Their work was on display at our Art Exhibition last week along with numerous other pieces. It is a great achievement to have won this competition and the Art Exhibition afforded our talented students the opportunity to display their work.
Finally well done to all involved in the RTE ‘Rumour Room’ production last week. It provides students an opportunity to air their views and opinions on a host of issues. The programme was aired on Network 2 last week.
