History made as Arklow CBS take to the field
HISTORY WAS made on Friday, March 11, when Arklow CBS took to the field to play Carnew BNS in a game of rugby at Arklow Rugby Club.
The team has only been in existence since the new year but have already made huge strides with Principal, Mr.Peter Summers, giving his full backing.
They now play in a development league with Carnew BNS, East Glendalough and Wicklow Abbey/De La Salle competing on a home and away with the top two teams playing off for the cup.
The game against Carnew was a tight and physical affair with both teams showing great commitment and endeavour. The CBS team really tested the Carnew defence but ultimately mistakes on the day proved costly as Carnew won 38-7.
The Carnew team had a number of players from rugby clubs and were well organised with Conor Fanning their stand out player.
Best on the day for the CBS team was school captain Ryan Weller with some awesome tackles and ball carries. You could not fault either team for effort and the match was played in the true spirit of the game. Congratulations to all concerned.
On Wednesday, March 16, Arklow CBS played East Glendalough in only their second competitive game ever and again showed great effort and desire.
While the score of 38-7 was a repeat of the previous week, the team played with more direction and again showed how they are improving.
The well organised defence of East Glendalough proved hard to break down but the effort of the CBS boys paid off with a try right on the final whistle from Seán Byrne.
Best for East Glendalough on the day was Aaron Murphy who from the right wing constantly caused the CBS defence problems with jinking runs and great off loads.
The CBS cause was aided by some fine performances from Seán Byrne and John Flood in the pack and Alex Kenny and Mason Middleton in the backs.
