Newtown bounce back with big win
NEWTOWN UNITED showed their recent defeat to Rathnew AFC was just a minor blip on the radar as they bid to defend their Premier Division crown.
Having lost their unbeaten record in their most recent league outing, the Magpies were determined to get things back on track this week and they did so in emphatic fashion on Sunday.
Enniskerry YC A were the misfortunate victims as they crashed to a 5-1 defeat at the Matt Kelly Memorial Grounds.
Ross Odlum notched up another two goals on his tally for the season. Cathal McNicholas, Billy Clarkson and John Heffernan were the men responsible for United's other efforts.
United have now moved level on points with Wicklow Town at the top of the table, but the Finlay Park side have played a game more than their title rivals. Stephen King netted the YC's consolation effort on Sunday.
At Bridgewater Centre Park, Rathnew AFC A were unable to build on their magnificent victory over Newtown. Anto Nolan scored for the Shamrock Park side as they slipped to a 3-1 defeat against the Black and Whites.
