Close shave for Alan before mountain climb

Bray People - - NEWS -

A BRAVE Bray man has vowed to get rid of some hair and smoothen up for charity before attempting to climb one the tallest peaks in the world.

Palermo carpenter Alan Kilkenny will be waxing his legs, chest and more in a bid to raise much needed funds for the Olive Foundation, which supports sufferers of Cystic Fibrosis and their families.

The 32-year-old will also shave his head in exchange for donations. The big shave-off is to take place in local pub Katie Gallaghers on Saturday April 16.

While most men would be intimidated at the thought of losing their locks, Alan has put his pride and vanity aside. 'I want to do as much as I can between now and September so my contribution to the charity is as large as it can be,' he said.

Alan has also signed up for a strenuous hike up the Kilimanjaro in Tanzania this September.

He has already started training for the mountain-climb, which will take him as high as 19,000ft.

Last weekend, Alan climbed Croagh Patrick in Co. Mayo for practice, with fellow fitness fanatic and pro-wrestler Fergal Devitt, as well as other supportive pals.

To find more information on the hike and to donate money towards any Olive Foundation event, go to www.olivefoundation.ie.
