Lorcan first home in a record time
IT WAS Lorcan Murphy who finished first in last weekend's challenging triathlon in Bray, with a record time of 55 minutes.
25 Transition Year Pupils at Presentation College, Bray, took part in the race, which tested the mettle of even the fittest participant.
Pres biology teacher and TY head Gavin Lynch explained that the triathlon has been an annual fundraiser for three years in aid of Cystic Fibrosis Ireland.
Five of the competitors finished inside the hour, but it was Lorcan who had the edge on the day.
The lads started out with a 10-length swim at Shoreline Leisure Centre, before an 11 km cycle down the Southern Cross, up the Boghall Road, Killarney Road and back two and a half times. They then ran from their school to the seafront via Newcourt Road, along the seafront and back up the grueling Putland Hill for the last stretch, with plenty of Pres students lining the route to the finishing line to encourage them up the tough hill.
It was a lovely day, and they hope that when all the sponsorship money is collected they will have raised a total of €2,000.
