FIRST YEAR MODULAR CHANGEOVER
On Monday, March 14, all first year students experienced their final modular changeover for the year. Based on the subjects they engaged in during these modules they will choose their subjects for next year.
Subject preparations for Colaiste Chill Mhantain In recent weeks our 3rd and 4th year students have attended a number of informative talks with regards to choosing their subjects for our new school Colaiste Chill Mhantain. Both years attended talks on the Leaving Cert Applied Programme as well as the Transition year programme. These meetings were followed by an informative evening for the parents of these students on Monday, March 20, in the Abbey Community College.
LA GLAS A
“La Glas” was held in the school on Wednesday 16th March as part of seachtain na gaeilge. Proceeds from this event were donated to charity. A sincere thanks to all of those students and teachers who participated. Oral Leaving Cert Exams Leaving cert students are at present busy preparing for their oral exams which are due to take place in the college next month. To date the irish oral exams are due to take place on Monday, April 4, with the french orals taking place on April 14. Staff and management would like to take this opportunity to wish all students the very best of luck.
As part of the 2nd year’s CSPE programme guest speaker Mr. Thomas Clarke spoke to all 2nd year students regarding the workings of the political system in this country and how he as an independent candidate sought to become involved in the political institution. The students would like to extend a sincere thank you to Mr. Clarke for taking the time to speak to them especially about his own experience.
Teams from the College will take part in the Lions Club School’s Quiz in Fatima Hall on Tuesday 22nd March. The winning team on the night will receive a voucher for ¤50.00 each. The amalgamated scores from each of the participating schools will then be tallied and the winning school will be awarded the ‘Scholarship Bursary’ of ¤1,000.00.
This bursary will be given at the schools discretion to the most deserving 2011 Leaving Cert candidate in need of financial support, who is starting a third level course for a minimum of three years duration.
These monies will be provided for the first year only. It is the intention of the Wicklow and District Lions Club to continue this scheme for many years to come and therefore have commissioned The Wicklow & District Lions Club ‘School’s Quiz, Perpetual Trophy which will be awarded to the winning school on the night of the quiz.
