FIRST YEAR MOD­U­LAR CHANGEOVER

On Mon­day, March 14, all first year stu­dents ex­pe­ri­enced their fi­nal mod­u­lar changeover for the year. Based on the sub­jects they en­gaged in dur­ing these mod­ules they will choose their sub­jects for next year.

Sub­ject prepa­ra­tions for Co­laiste Chill Mhan­tain In re­cent weeks our 3rd and 4th year stu­dents have at­tended a num­ber of in­for­ma­tive talks with re­gards to choos­ing their sub­jects for our new school Co­laiste Chill Mhan­tain. Both years at­tended talks on the Leav­ing Cert Ap­plied Pro­gramme as well as the Tran­si­tion year pro­gramme. These meet­ings were fol­lowed by an in­for­ma­tive evening for the par­ents of these stu­dents on Mon­day, March 20, in the Abbey Com­mu­nity Col­lege.

LA GLAS A

“La Glas” was held in the school on Wed­nes­day 16th March as part of seach­tain na gaeilge. Pro­ceeds from this event were do­nated to char­ity. A sin­cere thanks to all of those stu­dents and teach­ers who par­tic­i­pated. Oral Leav­ing Cert Ex­ams Leav­ing cert stu­dents are at present busy pre­par­ing for their oral ex­ams which are due to take place in the col­lege next month. To date the ir­ish oral ex­ams are due to take place on Mon­day, April 4, with the french orals tak­ing place on April 14. Staff and man­age­ment would like to take this op­por­tu­nity to wish all stu­dents the very best of luck.

GUEST SPEAKER

As part of the 2nd year’s CSPE pro­gramme guest speaker Mr. Thomas Clarke spoke to all 2nd year stu­dents re­gard­ing the work­ings of the po­lit­i­cal sys­tem in this coun­try and how he as an in­de­pen­dent can­di­date sought to be­come in­volved in the po­lit­i­cal in­sti­tu­tion. The stu­dents would like to ex­tend a sin­cere thank you to Mr. Clarke for tak­ing the time to speak to them es­pe­cially about his own ex­pe­ri­ence.

QUIZ COMPETITION

Teams from the Col­lege will take part in the Lions Club School’s Quiz in Fa­tima Hall on Tues­day 22nd March. The win­ning team on the night will re­ceive a voucher for ¤50.00 each. The amal­ga­mated scores from each of the par­tic­i­pat­ing schools will then be tal­lied and the win­ning school will be awarded the ‘Schol­ar­ship Bur­sary’ of ¤1,000.00.

This bur­sary will be given at the schools dis­cre­tion to the most de­serv­ing 2011 Leav­ing Cert can­di­date in need of fi­nan­cial sup­port, who is start­ing a third level course for a min­i­mum of three years du­ra­tion.

These monies will be pro­vided for the first year only. It is the in­ten­tion of the Wick­low and District Lions Club to con­tinue this scheme for many years to come and there­fore have com­mis­sioned The Wick­low & District Lions Club ‘School’s Quiz, Per­pet­ual Tro­phy which will be awarded to the win­ning school on the night of the quiz.
