NEWCASTLE GAA

Our Division 3 football campaign got off to a pretty shaky start with a seven points defeat against Knockananna, however the scoreline didn't really reflect the effort put in by the team or the chances created. But the lads knew that an improvement was going to be needed against neighbours and Junior B football champions Rathnew and an improvement was certainly delivered.

However despite clocking up an impressive 1-10 on on the scoreboard, a succession of soft needless frees and a penalty at the other end handed the advantage to Rathnew who win by a scoreline of 1-13 to 1-10.

Scorers for Newcastle were Shane Cloake (0-4), Robbie O Gara (0-4), Rob Daly (0-1), Johnny O Brien (0-1) and Brian Thompson (1-0). Newcastle Expo took place last Sunday with the club hosting one of the stands.

There was a great turnout from all sections of the community and there was great interest in the kids GAA camp due to start in Newcastle Easter week for 4-8 year olds. Anyone else who is interested, please contact any member of the committee.
