Last Friday evening under the lights in Avondale our under14’s took on the reigning champions Blessington in the final of this year’s Feile. For once we were quick out of the traps and raced into an early lead, the first half was score for score and finished level at half time 3 points each.

In the second half Blessington got the crucial scores while we struggled to convert the chances we had and while we lost by 6 points we were never really out of the match until the final whistle.

The lads battled on gamely and on a night where we did not get the rub of the green or the big decisions, they still fought until the end and can be proud of the effort and commitment that they put in. With the league and championship still to start you can be sure we have not heard the last of this team.

Panel of players on the night was S Carthy, J Shannon, S Fenelon, L Keogh, K Dalton, R Greenan, E Moran, D Walsh, V Ribakov, R Davis, M Doyle, D Carthy, R Taylor, L Turner, K Turner, A Heffernan and S Pawlac.

After the match the lads headed back to the clubhouse for some refreshments provided by centre, while the parents had some of the finest sandwiches that were ever tasted, made by Johanna and Caroline. Thanks girls and well done.

The Under 8’s are currently training on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-7 so if you have a boy or girl that wants to learn the basics of the game and have a bit of fun then please contact Frankie at 086 3808799 for more details. The club would like to extend their deepest sympathies to the family and friends of John Doyle RIP who tragically passed away last week. May he rest in peace.
