East Coast Ra­dio are again hold­ing their Wick­low Wide Cof­fee morn­ing with spe­cial guest celebrity in Ka­vanaghs put, Round­wood on Fri­day 8th April from 10a.m - 12pm. Lots of tasty treats and prizes on the day. Your sup­port would be greatly ap­pre­ci­ated.

All pro­ceeds go to Cancer Sup­port Ser­vices in the Wick­low area. Ka­vanagh's pub would like to take this op­por­tu­nity to thank all those who very kindly sup­ported the Christ­mas Cracker night in De­cem­ber when 700 euro was raised. A cheque was handed over to Dr. Brian Cud­dihy of the Wick­low Hospice.


An af­ter­noon tea dance will be held in Round­wood Parish Hall on Sun­day af­ter­noon the 3rd April at 3pm. Mu­sic by John Flood. All are wel­come.

2011 Spring Church Con­cert Se­ries Calary Sun­days in April: 3rd, 10th, 17th. This April Calary Church, Round­wood will host a new Con­cert Se­ries. Sa­cred Spaces: Sa­cred Sounds will fea­ture three well-known Wick­low mu­si­cians Ea­mon Sweeney, Rachel Fac­tor and Red­mond O'Toole.

The con­certs will take place in Calary Church, Round­wood and will in­clude mu­sic from the Ir­ish & Baroque tra­di­tions in­clud­ing works by J.S. Bach, Tur­lough O'Carolan, Louis Couperin and Domenico Scar­latti. Each con­cert will run from 3.304.30pm on three con­sec­u­tive Sun­days in April. Re­fresh­ments will be served af­ter the con­cert Calary Church, Round­wood.


The mem­bers of the Round­wood Plough­ing So­ci­ety would like to ex­tend their deep­est sym­pa­thy to the Power fam­ily on the re­cent death of Ge­orge Power. Ge­orge was a long serv­ing and ded­i­cated mem­ber of the Round­wood Plough­ing So­ci­ety, plough­ing in com­pe­ti­tions for many years, in­clud­ing rep­re­sent­ing Wick­low in the horse plough­ing competition at the All Ire­land Plough­ing Cham­pi­onships. He also held the cur­rent po­si­tion of Chair­per­son of the com­mit­tee. Ge­orge will be sadly missed by all, may he rest in peace.

The next dance in Round­wood Parish Hall/Cen­tre will be on the 15th April mu­sic will be by Golden Dream and on the 20th May mu­sic by Gerry Galvin and the Wick­low man will play on the 17th June and Rio on the 15th July. Dancing is from 9.30pm - 12 mid­night with tea and a raf­fle. There will be a tea dance on Sun­day 5th June from 3pm - 6pm with mu­sic by Wil­liam Belton.

Peo­ple are needed for a spon­sored walk in aid of the Glen of Imaal Moun­tain Res­cue Team will take place from the 27th - 28th May on Clare Is­land or Croagh Pa­trick.

Round­wood Mar­ket re-opened on Sun­day 20th March (1p.m. to 5p.m) in the new Parish Hall, Main Street, Round­wood. Home bak­ing, crafts, plants, etc. avail­able ev­ery week. New mem­bers wel­come. Call in and say hello! You will be more than wel­come.


The Unity Gospel Choir will hold a con­cert in Round­wood Parish Hall on Fri­day 1st April from 8pm - 10.30pm. Ad­mis­sion €10 with all money raised go­ing to The Wick­low Moun­tain Res­cue. Tick­ets are in Justines shop or can be bought on the door on the night.


Tak­ing 1st place on Mon­day 21st March for North/South were Mol­lie Byrne and Rachel Judd, 2nd Brid Clancy and Mon­ica Brady and 3rd Ger­tie Fee and Cather­ine Hal­li­gan. Ger Leni­han and Rowena Brady were the vic­tors for East/West, Teresa Leahy and Mar­ion Davies were 2nd and Cather­ine McGilly­cuddy and Phil Power were 3rd.


Re­sults for North/South on Fri­day 25th March were Ger Leni­han and Mon­ica Brady 1st, Rowena Brady and Jim Mc­Na­mara 2nd and Liz Belton and Teresa Leahy 3rd. East West vic­tors were Alex Silva and Carol Vam­beck, 2nd Bri­die Nolan and Ger­tie Fee and Mary Pierce and Miriam Coyle were 3rd.


Back next month is John Flood on 8th April. Up­com­ing dates, Wick­low Man 13th May and Richie Halpin on 10th June.

Raf­fle prizes were won by Pat Fisher; Lucy Mol­loy, Mau­reen Gaffney, Nan Wolo­han & Ann Gaffney. The next whist will be on Wed­nes­day 6th April.


There was no jack­pot win­ner in last week­ends draw the num­bers drawn were 4, 7, 16 & 21 There were fif­teen match three win­ners. Next weeks jack­pot will be €5,900.


Brid­get Brady for­merly of The Bridge, Ash­town, Round­wood and who now re­sides in Malaga in Spain will be the only Ir­ish fe­male par­tic­i­pant along with thir­teen Ir­ish male par­tic­i­pants in the Marathon Des Sables Desert Race in Morocco from the 1st to the 11th April.

This race is run over seven days and is a six stage race where there are sev­eral heats, free style, and with food self-suf­fi­ciency over a dis­tance of about 240 Km. Each par­tic­i­pant must carry his/her own back­pack con­tain­ing food, sleep­ing gear and other ma­te­rial.. This race is known as the tough­est race on earth.

It is the 26th year and this year there will be 877 com­peti­tors Brid­get's num­ber is 517 and Eurosport will be cov­er­ing the race ev­ery night at 7.30pm from the 3rd April. TV3 and ITV will also be show­ing it, check your tv guides for times. We'd like to wish Brid­get the best of luck in this very tough chal­lenge.
