Great numbers turning out for our saturday morning training sessions. Training continues on Saturday 3rd April at 11am in the pitch for U-6, U8, U-10 and U-12. All boys and girls aged 4 years and upwards welcome. U-12 match on this Thursday 31st March at 6.15pm in the pitch. Our U-12 team played Enniskerry at half time in the Wicklow v Roscommon game in Aughrim last Sunday. A very enjoyable day was had by all and it was a great experience for the children to play on the County Grounds in front of such a large crowd. After a first half of fast, exciting football we had edged ahead by two points but Eire Og’s superior fitness told in the 2nd half as they won by 5 points on a scoreline of 2-13 to 1-11. The results leaves plenty of hard work to be done if we are to match Eire og in the championship along with Laragh , Rathnew , Kiltegan, Enniskerry, Newcastle in group one.

Sinead Byrne, Kellie Byrne and Claire Byrne were all playing on Sunday with the county team against Meath, they all put in a great effort but they were unlucky against a strong Meath team. Also the U-16's were playing aginst Westmeath and again put in a great effort but were unlucky on the day.

There was no winner of the lotto last week the numbers were 11, 18, 22 and 28. We had 3 match 3 winners Liz Foley, Karl and Jamie Furlong and Peg Farrell. Next week's jackpot stands at €10,000. Our senior hurling team made history on Wednesday night when they played Knockbridge of Louth in the Leinster Hurling League in Donard under lights the first Leinster club match at this venue. We also won the game by 2 points 1-14 to 1-12. Our senior footballers play Newtown in Newtown on Friday evening at 8pm in the senior league.
Its 25 years this year since our senior football team won the first ever senior football championship and to mark the occasion the team of 1986 are getting together for a weekend in the Ferrycarrig Hotel Wexford on the weekend of the 8th and 9th April.
This year also marks another bit of history in our club when 40 years ago in March our own Peter Keogh has to resign a Chairman of our club to take up the position of secretary of the West Board. When Jack Boothman and Peter turned football and hurling on its head in the west. In fact Jack and Peter are still the best of friends to this day. It's good to hear that Jack is back home again after a long stay in hospital. We wish him good health.

Girls U-10 training has been going great for the last 4 weeks and continues every Thursday at the Astra turf in Pearse Park from 5.45pm - 7pm. The First County blitz will take place in April and it will be great to see what the girls have learned in training put in to practise!
U-9 boys are training well on Friday evenings at Pearses Park from 6.45pm to 8pm. The boys will have their first Blitz next week at home, further details will be sent by text to parents and posted on web site, when confirmed.
U-14 Ladies football team took on An Tóchar in the Division 1 League on Sunday 20th March 2011. The girls traveled to Roundwood for the opening fixture and a superb game of football was enjoyed by the many supporters from both clubs who turned out to cheer the girls on. The girls' next game will be on April 19th when they take on Coolkenno at home at 7pm. The U13 squad is also busy preparing for their opening league game away to Carnew, also on April 19th at 7pm. As the games are running simultaneously much support will be needed to cover both.
U-9 and U-10 boys are training every Friday evenings at Pearses park from 6.45 to 8pm. Our new coach Mark Nolan has made a big impression with the U-10 boys, with new drills, skills, games and above all lots of fun, the boys are really enjoying their training sessions. They will have their first Blitz in the Go Games series on April 8th at home where Avondale, Rathnew and Avoca will be the visiting teams, throw in at 6.45 don't forget to check back here next week for match reports, and on our website for pictures.
U-14 boys have a challenge game this evening the 30th against Tinahely. This should prove a good run out for the lads ahead of our first league game at home to Bray Emmets, next week on the 6th of April. Full report on that match right here next week.

Coolkenno GAA Club celebrated it's 30th anniversary in style on Saturday night last in the Ramada Hotel, Killerig. Ned Rossiter was the Master of Ceremonies for the event. Before an attendance of almost 200, the founding members of the club were honoured as were the team which lined out for Coolkenno's first ever championship match on the 21st of June 1981. The honoured officers were Cathal Friel, who was the Chairperson; Myles Keogh, the clubs first secretary and Jim Walker, who held the position of treasurer back in 1981.
The team that lined out against Rathnew on that fateful June day almost 30 years ago was: Joe Tompkins, Robert Doyle, Myles Keogh, Percy Fitzharris, Paul Donoghue, Kevin Byrne, Pat Whealan, Seamus Doyle, John Byrne, John Keogh, Jack Bowes (captain), Jim Keegan, Billy Wilson, Fin Doyle, Peter Dempsey, Pat Keogh, Pat Bowes, Mick Bowes, Paudge Balfe and Mick Carroll. Incidentally, these 20 men were victorious that day beating one of the giants of Wicklow football by 4 points on a scoreline of 1-8 to 1-4. 80's player and current selector John Keogh compiled a slide-show which showed many of the teams that have donned the red and black over the years, from that pioneering team of '81 all the way up to last year's u-14 team.
The players who excelled at Junior and Senior level in the last year were recognised also. Don Jackman was crowned Senior Player of the Year while Billy Lucas was the deserving winner of the Junior Player of the Year award. Congratulations to them. The club would like to thank the staff and management of the Ramada for the wonderful service on the night and Cupla who provided the soundtrack to the evening. They were well received by the crowd - the 1981 generation in particular.
In other news, the club newsletter was launched this week. It's called The Clubman and is on sale in the Shop, Coolkenno. It costs just €1.The U-16's travel to Kilcoole on Monday in search of two points. Senior player Robert Keogh also returned from Australia this week, welcome back to him! Everyone involved with Coolkenno GAA would like to wish Michael Keogh of Clonmore a speedy recovery from illness.

A hard earned 0-8 each draw for the Seniors against Ballinacor in Division 2 at home on Friday night. Two late points from Brendan Kennedy and Ed Davis secured a draw which was a fair result on the night.

There will be a one-day Football Skills Development Course held at Áras An Tóchar on Wednesday 20th April for 13-15 Year old Boys and Girls. The course will run from 10 a.m. until 3p.m.

The U-14 Girls had an excellent start to the season with a one-point win over AGB on Sunday March 20th, under the management team of Jenny Miley and Ann Scott. It was a great game with players from both sides giving their all. An Tóchar 3-9 v AGB 4-5. Well done girls.

A very busy week for Blessington GAA juveniles with great action over the weekend with wins for our Feile and U-16 teams. The Feile team retained their title and will go on to represent the county in Cork at the end of June. They beat Newtown in Avondale 1-10 to 0-6. The U-16s also reached the Leinster league final which was played in Aughrim before the Wicklow v Roscommon match on Sunday last. The opposition was Seneschalstown, Co Meath. The lads were really well prepared for this by the management. Getting off to a flyer they settled down with a good point from Jordan Nolan. More great team work and play gave them a half time lead of 2-07 to 1-03. Blessington won with a final score of 4-13 to 1-9. Scorers J. Nolan 2-2, M O'Connor 1-0, D Ryan 0-2, J Kelly 0-3, D Boothman 0-1, I Richardson 1-4, D. McEnroy 0-1. This is the first time that Blessington have entered this competition. Our U-16s also played Newtown in Round 2 of the league on 21 March and won by a point with the final score of 5-07 to 3-12. Round 3 will be away to St Kevins on 28th March and Round 4 at home on 4 April v Bray Emmets. Our minors will face Avondale at home on Sunday 3 April in Round 4 of the minor winter league.
Our indoor hurling for U-8’s will finish this Thursday 31 March but will continue at the pitch every Thursday from 6pm - 7pm all summer except August. Go Games football will commence on Saturday 9 April at home playing Dunlavin, Kilbride/Lacken, Stratford/Grangecon. Hurling Go Games commence on Friday 15 April away in Dunlavin playing Ballymore and Stratford/Grangecon.

The Senior footballers were beaten by two points in their league game away to Rathnew on Saturday last. They dominated the first 20 minutes of the game but didn't make it count on the scoreboard. To their credit they battled to the end and the Rathnew goalkeeper had to make a good save at the very end to prevent us grabbing the points. Best wishes to Donie Fitzgerald and Rathnew player Jody Merrigan who both had to leave the field with injuries.
