Fion­nu­ala hon­oured as fi­nal­ist at pres­ti­gious sports cer­e­mony

WICKLOW RUN­NER Fion­nu­ala Brit­ton was hon­oured as a fi­nal­ist at The Ir­ish Times/Ir­ish Sports Coun­cil ‘Sportswoman of the Year 2012' held in The Shel­bourne Ho­tel, Dublin.

Fion­nu­ala was one of 12 sports stars be­ing recog­nised for their out­stand­ing achieve­ments and was in the run­ning for the over­all ti­tle of Sportswoman of the Year 2012.

She scooped The Ir­ish Times /Ir­ish Sports Coun­cil ‘Sportswoman on the Month' for De­cem­ber 2011, af­ter em­u­lat­ing Cathe­rina McK­ier­nan's 1994 Euro­pean Cross Coun­try Cham­pi­onship success by win­ning gold in Slove­nia.

She will also be in­cluded in the short­list for the ‘Sportswoman of the Year 2013’ hav­ing cre­ated his­tory early in De­cem­ber 2012 when she be­came the first woman to re­tain­ing the Euro­pean Cross Coun­try ti­tle with a stun­ning run in Bu­dapest, which also helped Ire­land to win the team event.

Fion­nu­ala was pre­sented with an of­fi­cial tro­phy at the gala awards cer­e­mony which was also at­tended by An Taoiseach Enda Kenny.

Fion­nu­ala was a sportswoman of the year fi­nal­ist.
