Plaque un­veiled to hon­our Dar­ragh’s sum­mer success

AS­GARD Swim­ming Club hero Dar­ragh McDon­ald was hon­oured in Ark­low re­cently as a plaque com­mem­o­rat­ing his sum­mer success was un­veiled at Co­ral Leisure swim­ming pool.

The plaque was erected in re­cent days mark­ing Dar­ragh's mag­nif­i­cent achieve­ment in tak­ing gold in the 400m Freestyle event in the Par­a­lympic Games in Lon­don last Au­gust.

The Gorey na­tive has been swim­ming with the Ark­low­based club for a num­ber of years and has based him­self at Co­ral Leisure for all of his pre-par­a­lympic train­ing.

Dar­ragh's par­ents and fel­low club mem­bers as well as a num­ber of lo­cal coun­cil­lors at­tended the func­tion to con­grat­u­late him.

Speak­ing to The Wicklow Peo­ple Mayor of Ark­low Peter Dempsey de­scribed Dar­ragh as ' in­spi­ra­tional'.

'I ex­tend hearty con­grat­u­la­tions to Dar­ragh on his ex­cel­lent achieve­ments and I'm de­lighted to see the plaque un­veiled in the town. He is an in­spi­ra­tion to all the young peo­ple in Wex­ford and Wicklow and in­deed Ire­land and I think we will see much fur­ther success for him in the fu­ture.'
