Plaque unveiled to honour Darragh’s summer success
ASGARD Swimming Club hero Darragh McDonald was honoured in Arklow recently as a plaque commemorating his summer success was unveiled at Coral Leisure swimming pool.
The plaque was erected in recent days marking Darragh's magnificent achievement in taking gold in the 400m Freestyle event in the Paralympic Games in London last August.
The Gorey native has been swimming with the Arklowbased club for a number of years and has based himself at Coral Leisure for all of his pre-paralympic training.
Darragh's parents and fellow club members as well as a number of local councillors attended the function to congratulate him.
Speaking to The Wicklow People Mayor of Arklow Peter Dempsey described Darragh as ' inspirational'.
'I extend hearty congratulations to Darragh on his excellent achievements and I'm delighted to see the plaque unveiled in the town. He is an inspiration to all the young people in Wexford and Wicklow and indeed Ireland and I think we will see much further success for him in the future.'
