U-turn on bus stop changes
A U-TURN on recent changes to the Bus Éireann Route 2 service that travels through Co. Wicklow has been welcomed by a County Councillor.
Following the announcement at the latter end of last year that certain bus stops would be dropped from the route outrage was expressed by local commuters who were confused about where buses were collecting and dropping off.
Bus Éireann has submitted a proposal to the National Transport Authority seeking to reinstate stops at Lidl, Main Street and Ferrybank in Arklow whole some services will now stop at rural bus stops at Jack White's, Ballincor and The Beehive.
Plans however do not include changes to the number of services that stop at St. Vincent's Hospital on Nutley Lane but a new route in and out of Dublin City Centre will be followed via Leeson Street and Donnybrook while new stops will be established at the O2 and Convention Centre.
Speaking to The Wicklow People Cllr. Pat Fitzgerald welcomed the proposed changes.
' They are to be welcomed, especially the reinstatement of the stops at Lidl and Ferrybank. The rural bus stops are also very important to people living in those areas. While it is not the full solution the changes are a step in the right direction.'
