Cen­tre bags over 600 vol­un­teers

OVER 600 vol­un­teers signed up with the Wicklow Vol­un­teer Cen­tre last year.

Vol­un­teers reg­is­tered with the cen­tre contributed an in­cred­i­ble 22,174 hours to their com­mu­nity in 2012.

Ap­ply­ing the av­er­age in­dus­trial wage, this vol­un­tary ef­fort has an equiv­a­lent value of over €489,159.

‘It is heart­en­ing to see Wicklow res­i­dents re­main as com­mit­ted as ever to the lo­cal com­mu­nity,' said Man­ager of Wicklow Vol­un­teer Cen­tre Leah Kinsella.

She said that Jan­uary is of­ten a busy time at the cen­tre.

‘Vol­un­teer­ing is a won­der­ful New Year's res­o­lu­tion,' said Leah. ‘It can be a great way of try­ing out some­thing new, get­ting ac­tive and meet­ing new peo­ple.'
