History Lectures 2013
THE Kilmacanogue History Society is already up and running for 2013 and the 1st lecture took place on Tuesday 8th Jan in the Glenview Hotel. Titled ‘A Year of Birds in Wicklow’ it was presented by Eric Dempsey and his photographic journey through the changing seasons of the year for birds in Wicklow was most informative and entertaining. Eric showed stunning images that captured the wonder of Wicklow's native and migratory birds, their migrations and movements, their breeding, and their struggle to survive the harsh winters. Eric Dempsey is a full-time writer, broadcaster, speaker and wildlife photographer, and a long-time member of the RTE ‘Mooney Goes Wild' team. He is the author of several books on Irish birdlife, including ‘ The Complete Field Guide to Ireland's Birds', and the members were delighted to have such an honoured guest. Attention now moves to the two remaining lectures in the Spring 2013 series which will take place on Feb 5th titled ‘ The 18th Century Headstones of Co. Wicklow’, it will be covered by Chris Corlett. And then on March 5th, ‘Printing - An Innovation that Changed the World’. This will be presented by Dr. Dermot McGuinne and The National Print Museum.
