His­tory Lec­tures 2013

THE Kil­macanogue His­tory So­ci­ety is al­ready up and run­ning for 2013 and the 1st lec­ture took place on Tues­day 8th Jan in the Glen­view Ho­tel. Ti­tled ‘A Year of Birds in Wicklow’ it was pre­sented by Eric Dempsey and his pho­to­graphic jour­ney through the chang­ing sea­sons of the year for birds in Wicklow was most in­for­ma­tive and en­ter­tain­ing. Eric showed stun­ning im­ages that cap­tured the won­der of Wicklow's na­tive and mi­gra­tory birds, their mi­gra­tions and move­ments, their breed­ing, and their strug­gle to sur­vive the harsh win­ters. Eric Dempsey is a full-time writer, broad­caster, speaker and wildlife pho­tog­ra­pher, and a long-time mem­ber of the RTE ‘Mooney Goes Wild' team. He is the au­thor of sev­eral books on Ir­ish birdlife, in­clud­ing ‘ The Com­plete Field Guide to Ire­land's Birds', and the mem­bers were de­lighted to have such an hon­oured guest. At­ten­tion now moves to the two re­main­ing lec­tures in the Spring 2013 se­ries which will take place on Feb 5th ti­tled ‘ The 18th Cen­tury Head­stones of Co. Wicklow’, it will be cov­ered by Chris Cor­lett. And then on March 5th, ‘Print­ing - An In­no­va­tion that Changed the World’. This will be pre­sented by Dr. Der­mot McGuinne and The Na­tional Print Mu­seum. All th­ese fu­ture lec­tures will take place in the Glen­view Ho­tel.
