Shamrock Celtic continue their winning run with impressive victory over Carnew
SHAMROCK CELTIC still lead by a nose in the Division 3 title race. The nomadic Celtic Park side carried on their impressive form seen in the latter stages of 2012 on Sunday as they recorded a facile 0-3 win over Carnew Celtic. Sean Knowd, Stephen McGuinness and Robert Gillespie were all on target for Dwaine Cooper's side as they moved four points clear of Arklow United B.
United is no longer the second placed side though.
That honour now belongs to Fairwood Celtic, who took their unbeaten record into the New Year courtesy of a precious 1-0 victory over Avonmore FC.
It was a tale of two penalties at Coolboy Sports Field; Alan Nolan converted a first half one for the hosts and home goalkeeper Gerry Rawson secured maximum points for his side when he kept out an Avonmore spot kick in the second period.
If Avonmore feel aggrieved by that result they won't have to wait very long to seek revenge as this Sunday they welcome Rawson and co. to Rathdrum.
There was more than just points at stake at the Fassaroe Community Centre on Sunday when local rivals Fassaroe YC and Ballywaltrim FC went to war,
But neither side can claim bragging rights after a tame 1-1 draw. John Graney netted for the hosts, with Tom Cowan notching for the away side.
