Magic Maloney has a bright future in hurling

Bray People - - SPORT - LUKE MALONEY

GETTING congratulated before a county final is not a very common occurrence. But that is the exact situation Luke Maloney found himself in before his side's minor county final replay this season. The youngster had found out the night before that he'd been named the minor hurling county player of the year but he had to put all the well-wishes to the back of his mind as he had the small matter of a county final to win; which he duly did.

'My mam told me the night before the county final. She'd gotten a text off someone at the club. It was weird getting congratulated before the match'.

Maloney also featured for the Junior hurlers who tasted glory as well and between all that he even found time to represent the club at Senior level.

What does the former Presentation College Bray student have planned for 2013?

'Hopefully to get into a county final with the Senior team and push on and develop as a player.'

And despite being recognised as the hottest property in Minor hurling in 2012, the Bray man is modest about any future county representation.

'It's a bit early!', he chuckles. Thankfully, the 18-year-old has plenty of time on his side.

Bray’s Luke Maloney.
