Comreg probes latest phone scam
PEOPLE throughout County Wicklow have been among those targeted by a phone scam which could see victims lose hundreds of euros.
Locals are warned not to answer their phones if they receive a call from the number +8681897022 or similar.
If dialled, the number will connect you to a premium line in Slovenia which could see you billed up to €150 or all your phone credit taken.
Because of the format of the number, it would be easy to mistake it for an Irish one if the user did not look closely enough.
Most of the calls were targeted at users whose numbers begin with 087. ComReg, Ireland's telecoms regulator, has launched an investigation.
