BRAY EMMETS

Registration - Registration for 2013 is now due and all players, coaches, mentors and committee members must pay their membership to ensure they are insured whilst carrying out their roles within the club.

Please note that the closing date for registration of all playing members is Saturday, March 2 but any players who are planning to train or play a match before this date must be registered, otherwise they will not covered by the GAA Injury Scheme.

For those members who do not wish to use the online system, a Club Registration Day will take place in the clubhouse on Saturday, February 23 from 11am to 4pm.

For any new parents who registered between September and December payment is now due. A complete list of subscription rates and full details on how to register are available on the club's website: www.brayemmets.com

Wicklow v Dublin City University - On Sunday, January 27, Bray Emmets again hosted the Senior Wicklow hurlers in their Bord Na Mona Kehoe Cup quarter-final against Dublin City University.

The 20-point win was made all the sweeter by the fact that Bray Emmets had five players on the panel: John Henderson, Eoin Mason, Mikey Lee, Harry Stephenson and the aforementioned Christy Moorehouse, who helped himself to 1-5 including the score of the game, a stunning point after a cheeky flick of the sliotar enabled him to get away from the DCU defenders.

Casey O'Brien's charges have looked impressive on the last two Sundays in Old Conna and given that DCU can call on players from hurling strongholds like Kilkenny, Dublin and Tipperary, it is safe to say that Wicklow hurling supporters can look forward to the season ahead with enthusiasm.

Next up though, is the semi-final against Meath, scheduled to take place in Navan next weekend.

The Wicklow Senior footballers also played a challenge match against Dublin Institute of Technology in Old Conna on Wednesday night, 23rd January.

This was a useful run out for Harry Murphy's squad as they continued their preparations for life in Division 3 of the National Football League against a team featuring intercounty stars such as Kerry's Darran O'Sullivan and Mayo's Aidan O'Shea.

Again, thanks to all the club volunteers who assisted with both fixtures. It is a privilege to stage any inter-county match and we are delighted that we were asked to host three over the last number of weeks.

Lotto - The club lotto resumes after the Christmas break with the next draw taking place on Friday, February 1. If you want to emulate Vincent Duffy who picked up a cool €5,300 a few weeks ago and be in with a chance of winning the current jackpot of €1100, be sure to register at www.brayemmets.com.

Don't forget, there is also a Lucky Dip prize of €25 every week.

GAA Foundation Coaching Course - The Club Coaching Officer, Dave Barry, was very pleased with the large turnout for the football and hurling Foundation Coaching Course held in Old Conna on Saturday, January 26.

In total, 24 people attended the first session, with the most positive aspect being the fact that the majority of participants were adult playing members.

Our thanks to Leinster GAA Development Officer, Garrett Doyle, for delivering an excellent course and well done to all involved for taking the time to partake.

It's great to know there's such an interest in our games in the Club. The next session is scheduled for Wednesday, February 6.

Sympathies - All in Bray Emmets were shocked to hear of the untimely passing of Mick Merrigan, who died unexpectedly on Sunday morning.

Mick was a native of Castletown, Co. Wexford but his work as a Garda brought him to Bray where we wore the club colours with distinction and played on the victorious 1973 Intermediate football championship winning team.

The club extends deepest sympathies to his wife Angela, sons Patrick and Peter, and daughters Kathleen and Orla, as well as his extended family and friends.

Help Required - Calling all budding camera men or women! A fitness coaching programme for the U-15 and U-16 boys has begun on Friday nights from 7pm to 8pm.

This is a 12-week programme with the emphasis on proper fundamental movement, strength and conditioning, fitness and injury prevention.

The course is being offered under the guidance of Niamh Buffini, a taekwondo expert and undergraduate student of Sport Science and Health at the National Athletes Development Academy, who is currently undertaking her internship.

All coaches and team mentors are welcome to come along on Friday nights and watch the training.

We are looking for someone who could record a number of the sessions in order to put some edited videos on the club website as a resource for all coaches.

If you can help, please send a mail to Dave Barry at dcbarry55@gmail.com.

Academy - The Club's youngest players return to action next weekend as the Academy resumes in Old Conna. The fun starts at 10.00 a.m. on Saturday, 2nd February and will finish at its normal time of 12.00 midday.

Facebook Competition - Keep an eye on our Facebook page over the coming days as we will shortly be announcing details of a competition to win a Club hoodie. You can follow us at www.facebook.com/BrayEmmets.

ST PATRICK'S

The club's Dinner Dance will take place on Saturday February 23 in the Grand Hotel, where our championship winning Senior footballers and Intermediate ladies teams will receive their medals.

Please keep the date in the diary with further details to follow in what should be a great night for all.

The club are always looking for new people to get involved and if you have any spare time to get involved either in a coaching/admin or any other role please get in touch with club secretary Brian Gleeson (086-8281124), or any committee member.

Best of luck to the County Senior footballers against Fermanagh on Sunday as they kick off their Division 3 campaign.

Please go along and lend them your support in Aughrim. Last of the calendars still available, again they make a great present for our exiles!

All adult players are asked to attend a players meeting on Thursday 31st January at 8pm in the clubhouse.

There is a lot of work going on behind the scenes at the moment with delegates attending County Board meetings, securing funding and sponsorship for the 2013 season, securing a solid foundation within the club which in turn should benefit our players and teams and hopefully lead to success.

The club would like to take this opportunity to thank all our lotto ticket sellers, past and new.

Their continued hard work brings a much appreciated source of funds. With that in mind we would like to welcome our lotto sellers to a social night in Doyle's on Saturday February 2nd at 9pm just as a token of our gratitude.

Congratulations to John and Niamh Franey and also Kevin and Siobhan Gill on their recent new arrivals. Get well message to Ned Byrne, Merrymeeting. Next draw takes place on Monday night January 28 in Lawless's.

COOLBOY

After our recent EGM which was well attended (and many thanks to all those who came out on the night) the following committee was elected: Martin Hennessy, Chairman, Michael O'Keeffe, Secretary, PJ Mulhall, Asst Sec., Wendy Thibault, Treasurer, Joseph Dempsey, Asst Treas.

We would like to thank all of the above for taking on these roles as it gets harder every year to get people to stand up for these jobs and we are truly grateful.

We hope to get our fundraising kick started next Friday night at 8pm in the hall when we will be distributing a new 'Predictor' Sheet for 2013.

We ask that the entire Finance Committee attend and anyone who would like to come along and pick up their own sheet is welcome to do so.

This turned out to be an excellent fundraiser last year along with being great crack as the year went on - just watching the results going up each week with the leader board constantly changing was a real incentive for people to get involved.

We would urge everyone to make sure to get your sheets filled in and returned on time as the amount of people who wanted to get involved after the deadline date was huge and we were unable to accomodate them.

So please, please get them filled out and back as quickly as possible. We will also be distributing our County Board Draw tickets (€50 each) for three draws over a three month period.

These tickets will be available from various members of the committee whose names and contact numbers will be included in next week's club notes so that everyone will know where they can get a ticket should they be interested in doing so.

Again, this turned out to be extremely lucrative for the club last year given the rebate we get back from the County Board and we are hoping to repeat the same success this year.

We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Coolboy Handball Club on winning County Club of the Year.

The award was presented to the club last Saturday night at the County Board awards night and it is a prize that is truly deserved as the amount of work that has gone into making the handball club one of the best, not only in the county, but nationally and internationally has been truly staggering.

From the very young to the more Senior members, everyone is encouraged and supported in a most remarkable way. Well done and well deserved to all concerned.
