Bray People - - THE NOTEBOOK -

A PLANNING application to destroy the Old Mill in Greystones has been withdrawn following public opposition.

The application was made by owners of the site in December. They wanted to replace the structure with a two-story retail building with shops on the ground floor and offices on the first floor.

The site already attained permission for the development of a retail facility with the codicil that the 1837 Old Mill structure must be retained.

Objection to the plans was widespread across Greystones with the move causing public outcry.

Deputy Simon Harris was among those to object to the planning application and he welcomed the withdrawal of same.

The supermarket Aldi is expected to open next to the Mill by summer of this year, however operators of the store have confirmed that its development is not contingent on the demolition of the Mill building.
