Pals saddle up for Team Galen
AN INTREPID team of cyclists from north Wicklow will cycle the length of the country in a bid to raise funds for Greystones man Galen English from May 3-6.
Galen English was out cycling late last year when he was involved in a road traffic accident in which he broke both his neck and back and was left paralysed from the chest down.
A team of 10 cyclists (including members of Bray Wheelers as well as volunteers from Greystones and elsewhere) have now agreed to cycle the 800km distance from Mizen Head in Cork to Malin Head in Donegal to raise money that will be put towards adapting his house to suit his needs as well as get him back cycling again through the acquisition of a specialised handbike.
Team Galen – comprising Will Golby, Una Morrissy, Wayne Morris, John Golby, James Hall, Oscar Shortt, Wez Kellett, Tony Martin, Sarah Pratt and Galen's brother Daniel – will need to cover 200km a day to complete their goal, and all sponsorship would be much appreciated.
The team claim to have received ‘wonderful support’ from the businesses of Greystones so far, with local bike shop Cycle Plus agreeing to provide food and support vehicles for their endeavour.
