Masterful display from Mulhall
AN EXHIBITION of point taking by PJ Mullhall was the highlight of proceedings in Coolboy on Saturday evening as the full forward knocked over six points from play to help Coolboy to a four point victory.
With the clubs coming together to play Senior football this year this game had the potential to be no more than a training game but with bragging rights up for grabs the sides gave each other a good runaround.
The only negative in the whole affair was a small clash between Stephen Carter and Ciaran Byrne with both men becoming frustrated after an accidental collision. Referee Brendan Furlong applied common sense though and the game continued with- out incident.
Coolboy would go in at half time three points to the good with PJ Mullhall in fine form from the off. His first point came in the second minute but was responded to by a free from Ciaran Byrne.
Shillelagh went ahead 3-2 with points from Ciaran Byrne and Barry Nolan after Niall O'Keefe had initially given Coolboy the lead but from here Coolboy upped the gears and stormed ahead by four, one of which was a free from Michael Gregan who wasn't feeling any affects of a windy Coolboy as he donned a fine pair of leggings to keep him warm.
Shillelagh slowly worked their way back into the fray with a point from Enda Foley and by half time it was 8-3 to the home side.
The game developed into a pattern in the second half and by the tenth minute Coolboy lead 11-7. PJ Mullhall had kicked over two peaches early on but they were matched by Noel Murphy when he sent over a fine point for Shillelagh.
The visitors hit a purple patch in the final 10 minutes and with six to go the gap was just two points between the teams but Paul O'Keefe and PJ Mullhall aided by an outstanding centre forward performance by Johnny Willoughby insured the bragging rights would be with the Coolboy lads at training on Tuesday evening.
