Schools get €185,000 for book rentals

A TO­TAL of €184,900 has been al­lo­cated to 12 pri­mary schools across Co. Wick­low for Book Rental Schemes.

The an­nounc­ment was made this week by the Depart­ment of Ed­u­ca­tion and Skills and is de­signed to re­duce fi­nan­cial pres­sure on par­ents.

Wick­low schools that have beena pproved for fund­ing are Scoil na Naomh Padraig Ark­low, Pow­er­scourt Na­tional School En­niskerry, Moin an Bhealaigh Na­tional School, Del­gany Na­tional School, St Peters Ark­low, St Josephs Na­tional School, Tem­plerainey, Ark­low, Cross­bridge Na­tional School, Ti­na­hely, Marino school Na­tional School Bray, Rath­coyle Na­tional School, Naomh Brid Na­tional School, Scoil na Naomh Brid Kil­te­gan, Wick­low Ed­u­cate To­gether Na­tional School.

A €15m fund which was al­lo­cated in Budget 2014 will tar­geted at schools who do not cur­rently op­er­ate book rental schemes. Min­is­ter Ruariri Quinn out­lined dur­ing the an­nounce­ment that the fund­ing was made avail­able through the sale of the Na­tional Lot­tery.

Pro­vi­sions have also been made for new schools due to open in Septem­ber to re­ceive Book Rental Scheme fund­ing.
