Wick­low crew are ready for the Chal­lenge

A ROW­ING crew from Wick­low town will take part in this weekend’s Celtic Chal­lenge to raise funds for Wick­low RNLI.

Ge­orge O’Brien of the re­cently formed Vartry Row­ing Club has put to­gether a team who hope to com­plete the row from Ark­low to Aberys­t­wyth in Wales in un­der 15 hours. The record is 14 hours 47 min­utes recorded by Ark­low Row­ing Club in 2002.

‘I man­aged to put to­gether a crew from Wick­low town and we are look­ing for­ward to the chal­lenge,’ ex­plains Ge­orge.

‘If we get the right con­di­tions we hope to fin­ish within 15 hours but that is to­tally weather de­pen­dent. All to­gether 12 people will be do­ing the race for the RNLI, con­sist­ing of three crews of four people. We will be ro­tat­ing the crew ev­ery few hours.’
