BE­FORE THE Tour, there is one fi­nal lec­ture of the His­tory So­ci­ety ‘Spring Se­ries’ to take place this Tues­day.

Ti­tled ‘Do the Ir­ish Speak English’ it will be pre­sented by Terry Dolan and it will be a most en­joy­able evening.

Dr. Terry Dolan, in­ter­na­tion­ally ac­claimed au­thor of ‘A Dic­tio­nary of Hiberno-English’ and fre­quent broad­caster on RTE, BBC and New­stalk Ra­dio, will give a fas­ci­na­tion in­sight into the ori­gins of the dis­tinc­tive way we use, abuse and en­hance the English lan­guage.

Terry will re­gale us on lo­cal vo­cab­u­lary, mis­pro­nun­ci­a­tions, brogue, lo­cal id­ioms, oblique metaphors, reck­less fond­ness for swear­ing, and much more.

Dr. Ter­ence Patrick Dolan is Emer­i­tus Pro­fes­sor of English at the Na­tional Univer­sity of Ire­land, Dublin, and a Fel­low of the Royal So­ci­ety of Arts. He is rec­og­nized in­ter­na­tion­ally as one of the leading au­thor­i­ties on Hiberno-English.

An en­ter­tain­ing evening is guar­an­teed for all ages, one not to miss.
