Festive fun and games as the lights are switched on in Greystones
DESPITE somewhat of a mishap with the generator that resulted in power going down during the official ceremony, there was a great atmosphere in Greystones as the Christmas lights were officially switched on signalling the start of the holiday season.
Power to the stage went down during the official ceremony as a generator failed, however, the lights still went on without a hitch and the children were delighted to see Santa had made the journey to the town for the special occasion.
‘It was a little bit disappointing that the generator packed in, but having said that, there was a great atmosphere on the streets and the town looks lovely,’ said Cathaoirleach of Greystones Municipal District Tom Fortune. ‘I think when the Fire Service arrived with Santa to see all the kids, that saved the day. They were also able to help us out with the lights.’
The festive spirit was kept going with music from students of St Laurence’s School, who sang Christmas carols, and music group Chorus.
Greystones has now been transformed into a winter wonderland and is ready for a busy festive season.
‘Obviously we’re hoping that everyone will stay local when it comes to Christmas shopping across the whole district,’ said Cllr Fortune.
‘It was lovely to get Christmas under way and we would wish everyone in the area a happy and peaceful Christmas.’
