Pres and Loreto kids ‘Don’t Stop Believin’
THERE was a great atmosphere at Mermaid Arts Centre last week as students from the Presentation College and the Loreto once again collaborated on their annual musical in front of a packed house.
This is the 13th year that the two schools have joined forces on annual production which is put on by a cast of transition year students, and this year promised to be as good as ever as they staged ‘Don’t Stop Believin’.
The show tells the story of the Ethel Lampert Community Centre which has run into disrepair and may soon close down unless the teens, volunteers and staff find a way to save it. The group face opposition from a group of sleazy city council members who want to knock the centre to the ground and redevelop and commercialize the neighbourhood, bringing them tonnes of tax revenue. When the teens who frequent the centre hear of a new television reality contest for glee clubs, they decided to form their own and try out in a bid to keep the centre open.
The students all worked extremely hard on the production which ran from Wednesday to Saturday and they got a great reception from the audiences each night.
It featured quite a large cast, all of whom collaborated excellently on stage making the show a real success. Both schools wish to thank everyone who came out and supported the production, as well as the students for their hard work.
