Cancer support centre changing its name
RAPIDLY approaching its 25th anniversary in early 2015, the Bray Cancer Support Centre has decided on a new name to take it into the New Year. As part of the organisation’s development, it will now be known as Purple House – Cancer Support.
The centre was founded in 1990 by Veronica O’Leary and became Ireland’s first community-based cancer support centre. Over the past 25 years it has gone from strength to strength and expanded to meet the needs of over 2,500 people annually in the Leinster area.
Explaining the new name, Conor O’Leary from the centre said: ‘Our new name, Purple House – Cancer Support, will allow our organisation to be more inclusive. It derives its name from the colour purple which has long been associated with our organisation and is also the colour of healing, courage and cancer survival.’
All services offered by the centre will remain the same as they continue to op- erate the drop-in centre in Bray as well as providing services for people throughout Leinster.
Purple House – Cancer Support are still asking for donations to be made to keep the centre operating at full capacity and they are inviting people to purchase a purple Christmas wish bauble from the centre and place it either on your tree at home or on the Tree of Hope in the centre.
